About the Alumnae Association

The MGS Alumnae serves as a bridge between the old girls and the School. Various events are organised throughout the year to allow old girls to reconnect with former teachers and classmates. The Alumnae also plays a supportive and complementary role to the School. We lend support to projects and fund raisers whether organized by the School or by ParentLink. Our President is a member of the School's Board of Management, ensuring that old girls have a representative voice. As the Alumnae, we are the custodians of our rich heritage. Even though we have graduated from MGS, we continue to encourage one another to strive to be Godly women of excellence with a heart of love, and uphold our motto: To Master, To Grow, To Serve, wherever we are placed and in every phase of our lives.

President's Message

Dear Alumna,

After an intensive 2016 and 2017 focused on developing the Heritage Centre, the Alumnae committee took a “breather” last year and concentrated on improving the efficiency of our internal processes. We took the opportunity to run an online inventory of our stocks for sale even as the new website was readied for launch.

NEW MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY

We have previously mentioned the highlights of the new site. An announcement that I am proud to make now is that we have introduced a new membership category for those aged 55 years and above, at a very special one-time fee of $55! We all know friends who regretted not joining the Alumnae Association earlier before the fees were increased so to all who fall into this category – you have no more excuses! All our fees are one-time only, no monthly charges and for life! Besides allowing you access to the MGS Sports Complex facilities (for a fee), membership will also have other privileges. Stay tuned for more details on this later.

The new site will make it easier for members to volunteer to help in our various activities such as Alumnae Day or Teachers’ Day, or on any of our sub-committees. These are Finance, Events, Website, Retail, Social Media and Special Projects. Contact us to find out more.

Our thanks go to Melissa Fam and her team who worked hard on getting this new site operational.

You will notice that we are launching the site at the same time we are celebrating the 132nd year of the founding of our beloved school. It is a time to reflect and to give thanks for the blessings that God has generously bestowed upon our school, its students, teachers, staff, parents and alumnae. It’s also a time to celebrate the “friendships made and pleasures shared” and “lift high her banner” as we celebrate another year of achievements and another year of witnessing God’s glory and graciousness in our lives.

We continue to thank our faithful old girls who have given tirelessly in various ways to MGS. The class of 1965, which turns 70 years young this year, is paying tribute to their head prefect and an inductee on the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame, Dr Miranda Yap. They are starting a scholastic prize in the name of Dr Yap, who passed away in 2015. Details of this will be out later this year. Other contributions to this fund are also welcome.

As always, I would like to thank all the wonderful members of my committee for working tirelessly, graciously and cheerfully all year through. It’s truly a joy serving with each of you and I thank God that you exemplify our motto: To Master, to Grow, to Serve.

A word of appreciation also to the school’s Senior Management Team and admin staff for making it easier for us old girls to serve the school.
